Signed card from the great Russian pianist, featuring an unidentified AMQS in C minor dated "Sydney, Australia, 1931."  Fine.  Card measures 3.25 x 2.25 inches (8.2 x 5.7 cm.).

A prodigy who studied with Leschetizky, Hambourg fled the Tsarist regime with his family for England in 1889 and went on to have one of the major careers in turn-of-the-century Europe.

Autograph Letter on Postcard Photograph, regarding an important early performance with Ellen Beach Yaw

Postcard photograph of the beloved English pianist and accompanist, with a signed autograph letter on the verso by Moore and with a facsimile signature on the recto. In full: "I did accompany Miss Ellen Beach Yaw once only at her London recital in the year 1924.  But I have never been to California so it must have been someone else who accompanied Maggie Teyte on this occasion.  I was a boy when I played Miss Yaw, + her concert was a great stepping-stone for me and led to other big engagements." In very fine condition. 3.5 x 5.5 inches (9 x 14 cm). Signed photographs of Moore are rare, this is a particularly intriguing example.

Engraved Portrait with Violin

An attractive etched portrait of the composer known as a champion of American music, a prolific choral composer, and concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic in the 1850's. He is shown seated, holding his violin. His facsimile signature appears below the image. Engraved by H. B. Hall after a photograph by Rockwood and dated N. Y., 1879. Some light foxing but overall in fine condition. 7.25 x 9.5 inches (18.5 x 24.5 cm), matted to 11.5 x 14.25 inches (29 x 36.5 cm).

TLS from the composer, author, educator, and radio executive replying to correspondence from one Roger Derby.  January 21, 1958.  1 pp., on WQXR FM stationary.  Chasins begins the letter by responding to a suggestion of a future book topic from Mr. Derby, seemingly to do with piano technique and possibly on how best to perform his own work.  "Even with marvelously endowed pianists such as Kapell or Bolet or Keene, I've explained and re-explained, and yelled and cajoled and demonstrated...and still more, and only occasionally have problems been fully understood or solved even after hours and hours at the keyboard together." "I'd Be a Butterfly... The Wish Granted" - Original Print

Hand-colored print published c. 1820s by Thomas McLean, depicting a woman perched on the edge of her piano bench with beautiful human-sized butterfly wings attached to her back and an expression of astonishment upon her face.  In the lower corner, a diminutive figure with cloven feat and in elaborate Orientalist dress stands upon crutches and holds up a stick, perhaps the genie responsible for her wings and the titular granted wish.  At the top of the illustration are the words "I'd have a pair of those beautiful wings," a reference along with the top caption and the sheet music seen on the piano to the 1820 song "I'd Be a Butterfly" by Thomas Haines Bailey.  Matted, fine.  10 x 14 inches (25.4 x 35.6 cm.).
