Signed card from the American composer, pianist and educator, inscribed "To Roger Derby/ with best regards/ Rubin Goldmark/ New York, February 8th 1932," together with a half-tone photograph from an unknown publication.  Fine.  Card measures 3.25 x 2.25 inches (8.2 x 5.7 cm.).

Rubin Goldmark was a pupil of Dvorák in New York, and went on to head the composition department at Juilliard for 12 years, where Copland and Gershwin numbered among his students.

Original photograph of German composer in his study, taken by Eschen, the great German photojournalist and portraitist.  Slight wear along edges, else fine, 8 x 10 inches (20.5 x 25 cm.).

Banned from working as a photographer during the Third Reich due to his political views, Eschen nevertheless occasionally worked under a pseudonym for agencies such as Associated Press and the Deutsches Reichsbahn. After the end of the war, he was able to work again openly.

German Folk Melodies - Autograph Music Manuscript

Autograph manuscript in the hand of the Hungarian composer, in which he has copied out two traditional German melodies in mensural notation. At the head of the page and in the margins, Kodály has noted the references to Böhm's Altdeutsches Liederbuch (1877), an unspecified publication by song collector Hans Baumann, and the "Baseler Tenor" manuscript (ca. 1544-1574). The first melody is known today as "Der blaue Storch." 4 lines of music on 1 page, 10 x 13 inches (25 x 32.8 cm). Some tears to the edges and light toning; overall in very good condition. Le Retour de l'Enfant Prodigue - Signed LP TO DAVID DIAMOND

Signed record of the important French avant-garde composer's cantata Le Retour de l'Enfant prodigue, inscribed to the American composer David Diamond on the back of the sleeve: "Pour mon cher David – son ami Milhaud." The cantata, composed in 1917 with a text by André Gide, is here performed by Bernard Demigny, Janine Collard, Gabriel Bacquier, André Vessières and Michel Caron. Released on VEGA, C30 A 24 (1960). [PN] 1666. 2 ff, 1-365, (1) pp. Signed by the publisher at foot of title page, "Sieber" and numbered "104" at the head. Green blue paper over green leather,  impressed crimson leather ownership plate of Mr. Paul D'Arnouville to upper board, skillful restoration to both boards and spine; evidence of erasure under the title and moderate damp staining to upper margin of title and approximately first fifth of the volume, not affecting the printed music. Later gift inscription in ink to the inner front board to the noted musician and collector Leonard B. Smith (see below). Overall an attractive and near fine, copy of this large and rare score.
