Enormous original lifetime Russian portrait photograph of the composer by the important photographer Alfred Konstantinovich Fedetchkiy, one of the first filmmakers in imperial Russia, director of the first Russian film, portrait photographer of many celebrated Russian figures, including members of the imperial family. Impressed imprint and name of the photographer lower left. Corners perished, heavily stained and foxed, still remarkably striking and very rare in this format. Beautifully presented in a worn but striking period hand-gilted frame. Photograph measures approx. 12.5 x 17.5 in [ 31.75 x 44.5 cm ]; framed to 22 x 28 in. [ 56 x 71cm ] overall.

Inscribed visiting card from the important Catalan cellist and composer, who has penned on a card printed with his name: "Reconnaissant—salutations et meilleurs voeux." With the original miniature transmissal envelope in Casals' hand, signed under the flap ("Exp: Pau Casals, Prades (P.O.)") and addressed to the violinist Fanny Brandeis in Louisville, KY. Also included are two small photographs, one showing Casals with violinist Alexander Schneider, and one showing Fanny Brandeis examining a Bach score with pianist Mieczysław Horszowski. Read More...

Rare original postcard photograph by Rosselle of Rosedale, Mississippi of the fiddler wearing a hat, cardigan sweater, and tall work boots seated with his legs outstretched, "Post No Bills Here" amusingly written in the negative over the sole of his left shoe, with caption below, also rudely penned in the negative, reading, " Bill Bailey / Champion Fiddler, of / Benoit, Miss."  Wear to edges, small losses along left, else fine, 3.5 x 5.5 inches (8.8 x 13.5 cm). Humorous, evocative.
