Life-Size Photograph as Petrouchka

Enormous Mishkin of NY photographic portrait of Nijinsky in the title role of the ballet Petrouchka, 1911. Photograph printed at a later date, likely last quarter of the 20th century, for use in an unidentified exhibition. Mounted edge to edge on board to the astounding larger-than-life dimensions of 40 x 88 x 2.5 inches! With numerous small nicks and tears and abrasions to the edges, but overall in very good condition. Group of 8 original programs, ca. 1920–1923, from the great ballerina. Included are a brochure for Pavlova's 1923 North American tour (printed in orange, with several photographs) and a single-sheet program from an appearance at the Strand Theatre on November 8 [1923], mentioned on the brochure; one program from an April 11 [1916] appearance at the Boston Opera House; two programs from a November 1920 appearance at Boston's Symphony Hall; two programs from a March 1921 appearance at Symphony Hall, one with two pages of handwritten notes, including some stick figure drawings of choreography; and one program from an October 1921 appearance at Symphony Hall.  Some handwritten notes to the programs; toning, wear, some small tears. Overall very good.

Copyrighted by Hutchinson in the print at the lower right, and dated 1915 at the upper right. Used mallet from the American jazz vibraphonist, percussionist and bandleader. Well-worn and used, "Good Vibes M - 235" printed to the wooden handle, obtained by our consignor directly from Hampton himself. Sold together with a marvelous original 1968 press photograph of Hampton jumping on top of a drum.

Graphically attractive program for a concert by the Glenn Miller Orchestra performed on 18 February, 1945, only two months after the bandleader's tragic death, including a lengthy essay on the history of jazz and a shorter essay specifically on the Glenn Miller Orchestra, both by French author and music critic Charles Delaunay, co-founder and long-term leader of the Hot Club de France, who has inscribed the inside cover: "To Michel de Bry/ as a mark of growing feeling and friendship/ Charles Delaunay." 10 pp., including inset attractive 3-color woodcut illustrations, 6.25 x 9.75 inches (16 x 25 cm.), mild wear, a little soiled, else fine.
