Engraved by Leschke after a drawing by Stein and printed at the Königliche Litographische Institut, Berlin. Overall foxing; otherwise in very good condition. 9.5 x 11 inches (24 x 28 cm), tipped to a mount measuring 11.5 x 15 inches (29 x 38 cm).

The record is included, featuring Haydn's Violin Concerto No. 2; Mozart's Adagio in E major and Rondo in C major; and Schubert's Rondo in A major. Red & white label PHILIPS - 802 848 LY. Collection of Promotional Photographs and Grammy Nomination Certificates

A small collection of photographs and ephemera from the celebrated American string quartet, noted for its longevity and bold, dramatic interpretations of the quartet literature. The collection includes four original promotional photographs of the complete quartet, ca. 1970's, one photograph of Sawyer, an unidentified man and pianist Anton Kuerti studying a score around the piano, four portraits and two performance photographs of cellist David Soyer, a two-sided promotional poster celebrating the quartet's thirtieth anniversary, and two original 1982 and 1988 nomination certificates from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Concert program from the brilliant young American pianist's 1948 performance at the Alumni Memorial Auditorium in Knoxville, TN, inscribed in pencil: "Best regards from William Kapell." 6 x 23 in. (15 x 22.7 cm.) Central vertical crease, encore written in pencil at the bottom of program listing, else fine. Together with a promotional bust portrait photograph (light creases and three notches on the right side, else fine; 8 x 10 inches (21.5 x 25.8 cm)) and with a clipping of local music critic Malcolm Miller's review of the concert for The Knoxville Journal, measuring approximately 4 x 4.75 inches (10.5 x 12 cm). Autograph Letter with Portrait Print

Autograph letter from the German pianist, pedagogue and composer to a former student, with a portrait of Kuhe mounted inside the folded sheet. December 15, [n.y.]. Kuhe writes: "It is always a great pleasure to feel one is not forgotten by one's old pupils. [...] I still can play the piano and pass many hours at my beloved instrument. Of course I remember very well the school you were at, and remember you also by your maiden name." He signs, "W. Kuhe." 2 pp. of a bifolium, with a small clipped portrait mounted on the facing internal page. Toning to the portrait; otherwise fine overall. 4.5 x 6 inches (11.3 x 15.5 cm).

A student of Schoenberg, Oscar Levant was a close friend and important promoter of George Gershwin and played the role of himself in the Gershwin biopic "Rhapsody in Blue."

Undated photograph of a marching band from Saint Paul, signed by every member, dressed in their full uniforms. A charming detail: the two signatures in the lower left hand corner, of Patty C. and Patty S., one right on top of the other. 8 x 10 inches (21.5 x 25.8 cm). Light wear on edges, otherwise fine.

Marching bands grew in popularity in the United States after World War I. The form is still thriving, with national and international competitions at a collegiate level.

Collection of Autograph Letters to his Manager

An interesting collection of autograph letters from the great Belgian violin virtuoso to the impresario and musical manager Jérôme Alliod. Dating from 1880 to 1884, the ten letters deal mainly with Marsick's engagements in France, Germany, Switzerland, and elsewhere in Europe, some mentioning details of programming and others referencing the performer's fees and reviews. Included are letters dated Jul. [5?], 1880 (4 pp.); Jul. 18, 1880 (3 pp.); Jul. 24, 1880 (4 pp.); Sep. 17, 1881 (2 pp.); Sep. 27, 1881 (2 pp.); Sep. 29, 1881 (3 pp.); Dec. 30, 1881 (3 pp.); Aug. 5, 1884 (2 pp.); Aug. 21, 1884 (3 pp.); and Sep. 5, 1884 (2 pp.) Together with three further letters from Marsick to other correspondents: one to a critic concerning a review (Mar. 26, 1879, 2 pp.); one to the baritone Léon Melchissédec ("mon cher Milchi"), regarding a young singer who would like to study with him (n.d., [1908], 3 pp.); and one to a Madame Privat concerning a missed invitation (n.d., 2 pp. with original envelope.) Ostinata in 3 Movements - Copy and Annotations by Mishel Piastro

Facsimile autograph copy of the important early Greek modernist composer's early twelve-tone duo for violin and piano, Ostinata in 3 Movements (1927), as copied and annotated by the violinist Mishel Piastro. Apparently photocopied from an autograph copy used in performance, this copy contains photocopied annotations as well as later autograph annotations in pencil. Markings include piano fingerings, slurs, note names, circled and "x"d spots, tempo markings, added note stems and bars (p. 34), and caesuras. 39 pp. Hole-punched and bound with metal rings, the holes reinforced with tape. Autograph Note Signed, Left on the Organ Console!

Autograph note signed from the important German organist: "Please, don't change the combinations! Fritz Heitmann." Together with a collector's note indicating that the note was left on the organ console at the University of Texas before his recital there on November 14, 1952. Written in pencil on a scrap torn from a Westminster Choir College program. Fine. 6 x 2.25 inches (15 x 5.8 cm).
