Collection of Sheet Music Signed and Used by Yvonne Brothier

A very interesting collection of opera arias by Gounod, Bizet, Massenet, Charpentier, and Puccini, owned and used by the important soprano of the Opéra-Comique, Paris. 7 pieces of sheet music are signed by Brothier on their covers and contain many performance markings such as dynamics, tempo markings, cuts, breathing and phrasing marks, in bold pencil and colored pencil. Also included is a copy of Satie's song Le Chapelier, not signed by Brothier but with the typewritten name of a M. Stunning original doubleweight photograph of the virtuosic Chilean soprano, signed and inscribed during her year in New York, 1927. She is shown in a dramatic white gown and has penned at the lower right: "Sofia del Campo / afectuosamente para il distinguido Señor H. Davis / New York, 1927." Photographed by G. L. Manuel frères of Paris, and signed by the photographer in the lower margin. Signed DeBellis of N.Y. photograph of the popular American lyric soprano, inscribed: "To Rev. & Mrs. Robert Gillespie,/ with sincerest wishes,/ Vivian Della Chiesa." Mild creasing to three corners, mounting remnants to verso, overall fine condition. 8 x 10 inches (20.5 x 25.4 cm).

A celebrity singer on the radio in the 1940's, Della Chiesa had a long and varied career as a singer within the worlds of opera, jazz, musical theatre, and nightclubs.

127. [Opera] Jenkins, Florence Foster. (1868-1944).
1938 Recital at the Ritz-Carlton - Original Program

A very rare original program from one of the notoriously awful soprano's private song recitals, held at the Ritz-Carlton on October 27, 1938. Printed in red on silver paper, the program features a photograph of Jenkins wearing a lace shawl, a mantilla, and a long string of pearls. The program included Caccini's Amaryllis (with the words amusingly attributed to Leonardo da Vinci!) and Mozart's concert aria No, no, che non sei capace, with the forewarning that the composer "tried to make the aria impossibly difficult to sing." 3 pp., printed on a large sheet folded in four. Two Signed Photographs

Two photographs, one of Don Cossack Chorus leader Nicholas Kostrukoff, dated 12/14/1944, and one of the entire chorus, signed by most of its members. Both with light wear around the edges, otherwise in fine condition. 8 x 10 inches (21.5 x 25.8 cm).

The Don Cossack Choir, founded in the late 1920's by Nicholas Kostrukoff, was one of many male choirs consisting entirely of exiled Cossacks. They toured the world for 45 years, disbanding when ill health forced Kostrukoff to retire.

Original brochure of the Wiener Staatsoper for October 1963, in the season celebrating the 150th anniversary of Verdi's birth. The brochure features two texts on Verdi and a section giving the performance history of his works in Vienna. 40 pp, with various photographs and advertisements in black and white. Group of seventeen original photographs of dancers from the American Ballet Theatre, ca. 1980's, most by the American theatre and dance photographer Martha Swope. The dancers pictured include Danilo Radojevic in "Cinderella"; Cynthia Gregory in "Swan Lake"; Marianne Tcherkassky, Danilo Radojevic, and ensemble in "Donizetti Variations"; Cynthia Harvey in "Romeo and Juliet" and "Cinderella"; Leslie Browne, Robert La Fosse, Susan Jones, Danilo Radojevic and Wes Chapman in "Romeo and Juliet"; Patrick Bissell in an unidentified role (photograph by Kenn Duncan) and Gelsey Kirkland in an unidentified role (photograph by Kenn Duncan.) Huge Signed Poster Photograph

Wonderful image of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dancing in formal attire, boldly signed by both. The poster measures an impressive 40 x 28 inches and has been dry mounted to foam core board.  The signature of Ginger Rogers measures 5.5 inches and the Fred Astaire signature measures 3.5 inches. Small tape damage and repair in the center just above one of the bows, some fold-lines from before the mounting, slight area of moisture damage to lower right corner,  otherwise fine. Certainly the largest signed photograph of these two film and dance icons that we have ever encountered!
