Also includes scene photos, behind-the-scenes photos, and an extensive scene excerpt in text. Original lobby poster illustration to front panel. 16 pp. 9 × 11 3/4 inches (23 × 30 cm). Original souvenir program, single-sheet program, and ticket stub from the 1947 post-Broadway touring production of Tennessee Williams' play The Glass Menagerie. The production starred Pauline Lord, with Eddie Andrews, Richard Jones, and Jean Shepherd. Souvenir program (14 pp.) includes photographs and texts; single-sheet program dated February 3, 1947 and ticket stub are pinned to the inside front cover. Autograph quotation signed from the distinguished French novelist of such historical classics as The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers, and The Man in the Iron Mask. Dumas has neatly penned a quotation of the first four lines from his "Billet d'Hamlet à Ophélie," this opening portion consisting of his translation of Shakespeare. The quotation reads: "Doutez qu'au firmament l'étoile soit de flamme/ Doutez que dans les cieux marche l'astre du jour/ La sainte vérité doutez-en dans votre âme/ Doutez de tout enfin, mais non de mon amour./ Hamlet II acte, Mr. Al[exandre] Dumas" and inscribed below "Pour l'album de Madamoiselle Fanny Debas. Signed postcard from the pioneer in the development of the animated cartoon, with a printed illustration featuring Betty Boop, Koko the Clown, and Bimbo. Koko's speech bubble, with printed text and the name of the recipient added in ink, reads: "Hello Robert/ Betty, Bimbo and I just stepped out of the movies to hang around with you." Under the illustration, printed text reads: "Here they are! Paramount funmakers at your service. Sincerely, yours, Fleischer Studios Inc.," followed by Fleischer's autograph signature in purple ink. The card is addressed to Robert C. Gillespie in Limestone, TN, with a 1.5¢ stamp featuring Warren G. Harding, and is postmarked as New York, N.Y. 1932. Two interesting press photographs relating to the great American novelist, short story writer, and journalist. Hemingway is seen in an iconic portrait photograph in Spain in 1959, photographed by Larry Burrows; and with bullfighter Luis Miguel Dominguin and actress Ava Gardner in 1954. [Anti-Slavery]. "Am I Not a Man and a Brother" & "Am I not a Woman & a Sister" - Pair of 19th Century Anti-Slavery Tokens
Rare pair of Anti-Slavery tokens produced for the Society for Effecting the Abolition of the Slave Trade, established by Granville Sharp and Thomas Clarkson in 1787. The first shows the society's emblem of a chained African man, naked and kneeling, "Am I not a Man and a Brother" around the perimeter on obverse, "May Slavery & Oppression Cease Throughout the World" around the perimeter and clasped hands (in print formats generally one is black and one, white) in the center on reverse. The other example shows a kneeling woman and "Am I not a Woman & a Sister" 1838" on obverse, "United States of America" (with backwards "N"), olive wreath with "Liberty / 183[8]" in center on reverse. These were commissioned by the American Anti-Slavery society to evoke pity for enslaved women as well as to foster equal rights for women. Bronze. Diam. 1 5/16 inches (30 mm). First somewhat worn and the "Sister" is slightly worn on recto (just a few high points) and the date below "Liberty" on the verso; the "Brother" with a loss on the recto.
