Attractive hand-colored lithograph engraving of a dancing master with a classroom of young girls. Titled "Caricatures Parisiennes no. 1" and captioned at the foot: "De la grâce, Mademoiselle, que diable, faites valoir ce que la nature vous a donné." ("Of grace, mademoiselle, for heaven's sake, use what nature has given you.") Engraved by Bernard et Frey and published by Hautecoeur Martinet, rue du Coq St. Honoré, ca. 1800-1805. Sight size 9.5 x 8.25, nicely matted in a window mat to 14 x 12.5 inches (35.5 x 31.5 cm).

Amusing caricature portrait of a Mr. E. Lazard, the concertmaster at the Théatre des Folies-d'Athènes in late-nineteenth-century Paris. He is shown with an oversized head and a thin body made out of a violin and pieces of rolled-up sheet music. Lithograph by Bloquet. Catalogue of violins offered and already sold by the Rudolph Wurlitzer Co., together with a price list of "Old Violins" and two letters from the company regarding a sale. The highest-priced violin offered at the time was a 1740 Guadagnini for $5,000, while a 1709 Jofredus Cappa or a 1735 Nicolas Gagliano were obtainable for $3,500.
