Bauer, Harold. (1873–1951) & Bauer, Ethel May.

Signed Photograph at Age 11

An extraordinary rare CDV photograph of the wonderful English musician Harold Bauer, who began as a successful violinist and later had a major career as a pianist. A student of Paderewski, he premiered Debussy's "Children's Corner" and after settling in the US, founded the Beethoven Association and taught for many years at the Manhattan School of Music. He has signed on the verso of a childhood photograph, adding the date of 1884, when he was just eleven years of age. Sold together with a similar childhood signed CDV of his less famous but also remarkable sister, the concert violinist Ethel May Bauer. Both dated, "Souvenir of the 10th of June 1884" and in very fine condition. 4.25 x 2.75 inches (10.5cm x 6.5cm). (23113)
