Signed half-tone chest-length portrait of the French soprano in costume for performance in La sorcière by Camille Erlanger, with the autograph date "1914."  Slightly pink-hued cardstock, 7 x 4.75 inches (18 x 12 cm).  In fine condition.

Between 1905 and 1923, Marthe Chenal was one of the most sought-after operatic sopranos in France and also one of the most adored women in Paris.  She participated in various world premieres, including La sorcière (1912) by Camille Erlanger (1863–1919), whose music seemed particularly close to her.
