Ravel d'après Ravel - Signed by Jourdan-Morhange

Lausanne, Switzerland: Éditions du Cervin. 1953. First. Collection of ten transcribed conversations between the Lithuanian-born French pianist and the French violinist about Ravel's piano music.  Octavo.  Original wrappers.  80 pp.  Half title inscribed, "En souvenir d'Hélène Jourdan-Morhange"; Perlemuter did not sign.  Uncut copy with pages unopened.  Wrappers wrapped in onionskin paper.  8.75 x 6 inches (22 x 15.3 cm).  Browned and very brittle; front endpaper partly detached and slightly torn to head; else in very good condition.

Perlemuter, who moved to Paris with his parents at the age of three, studied Ravel's complete works for piano under the composer's tutelage in the 1920s and became one of Ravel's most authoritative champions.  Jourdan-Morhange belonged to Ravel's circle of friends and was the dedicatee of the composer's Second Violin Sonata (1927), which she was no longer able to play due to arthritis.  Earlier, she had participated in the first performance of Ravel's Sonata for Violin and Violoncello (1922).  The conversations assembled in this book were originally broadcast on Radio-France.
